The Village Cinema

Hurst Village Cinema is an award winning, volunteer run, not for profit community cinema initiative which was established in 2011.

We are a member of Cinema for All, the umbrella organisation which has been representing the film society movement since 1946. We are also members of the British Film Institute Neighbourhood Cinema and Film Hub South East. All of these organisations share the aim to support and improve cinema provision to all communities.

The aim of the Village Cinema is to provide the residents of Hurstpierpoint and the surrounding area with access to a diverse range of the best films available from around the world, as well as independent US and British films classics and forgotten oroverlooked gems.

Films are shown once or twice a month, usually on the second Thursday and fourth Friday of the month, depending on the availability of the theatre. Doors/Bar open at 7.30 and the film starts at 8.00

Saturday Cinema

The Saturday Cinema shows family films once a month on Saturday afternoons. The films are normally screened on the last Saturday of the month, but this may vary depending on the availability of the theatre.

Doors open at 2.30 and the film starts at 3.00

There is no membership for the Saturday Cinema, but we do require any children under the age of 8 to be accompanied by an adult. Children over the age of 8 can be left alone at screenings, but parents should be aware that we are not providing any official childcare.

We do take precautions to ensure that these screenings are held in as safe an environment as possible, including having a member of the team present to monitor the auditorium at all times and help any children that need it and we ensure that no-one over the age of 18 is allowed in unless accompanying a child.

If you do leave your child at the theatre, please ensure you are there in good time to pick them up at the end of the film. We can tell you the time that the film finishes.

All tickets for the Saturday Cinema cost £4.00.

Coffee and cakes are on sale to Mums and Dads, and a range of sweets and soft drinks are on sale for the children.

The Saturday Cinema operates during out Autimn and Winter seasons only, as we have found that audience numbers decline in Spring.

Live Broadcasts

In 2015 we started screening Live Broadcasts as a joint venture with Hurst Players.

Having surveyed the residents of the village, we initially launched with NT Live, showing live performances, as they happen on stage at the National Theatre or in the West End.

We subsequently added the Live Broadcasts of the Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company.

These broadcasts have proved highly popular and we are always reviewing what is available. With members tickets at only £10 that represents a 50% saving on most cinemas.

Sunday Cinema

With this series of terrific films, the Sunday Cinema lets you catch up witrh some of the best films of recent years.

It is wonderful way to spend an autumn/winter Sunday afternoon, with a cup of tea or coffee and a slice of cake, seeing these works as they are meant to be seen, on the big screen,

The films are shown on Sunday afternoons, once a month. Doors open at 2.30pm and the film starts at 3pm and all tickets cost £4.
